Mark Gumula

MPO Director

Mark became the MPO's Director in July 2002. As the Director, he manages the operation of the MPO Office and its staff. He is a Certified Planner (AICP) who has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida. After completing his active duty in the USNR, Mark obtained a Masters of Science in Planning from The Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida.

Mark was previously employed by the Florida Department of Transportation, where he spent over 10 years working with MPOs in Southwest Florida. In the past, he has served as the director of several agencies, including the Tallahassee-Leon County Planning Department (which included the area's MPO office), the Town of Longboat Key Planning Department and the Charlotte County Community Development Department. He has also served on several state and national American Planning Association (APA) boards and committees. Appointments to other governmental technical advisory committees include the Local Government Comprehensive Plan Criteria Rule Working Group, which facilitated the development of the State's primary growth management rules (i.e., Chapter 9J-5, Florida Administrative Code). For several years, he also served as an Adjunct Professor at the Florida Institute of Technology. Mark looks forward to the challenges of working with the impressive team of professionals on staff to address the area's transportation needs.
